Active Aging Fitness, Founder & Head of Research

Dr. Kevin Powell is the founder and head of research at Active Aging Fitness, a company dedicated to helping seniors improve their health through strength training.

Since starting Active Aging Fitness in 2012, Dr. Powell has grown the organization from a small Denver location to over 30 centers across North America, helping more than 30,000 seniors get stronger and regain their independence.

As the leader of the company, Dr. Powell created the "Functional Strength for Life" program, which is used by over 500 trainers around the world.

His innovative approach combines exercise science with easy-to-follow methods that make it possible for seniors to build strength safely and effectively. Active Aging Fitness has won multiple awards, including the 2023 Excellence in Senior Wellness Award and the Innovation in Healthy Aging Award.

Dr. Powell also works closely with healthcare providers and senior living communities to bring fitness programs like "Strong at Home" and "Balance & Beyond" to retirement homes across the country. He leads important research on how strength training can improve the lives of older adults, with his findings being published in top journals about aging and fitness.

In addition to his work at Active Aging Fitness, Dr. Powell is a well-known speaker at aging conferences and serves on the advisory board of the National Council on Aging. Through his "Strength for All" initiative, Dr. Powell has helped provide free fitness programs to seniors in underserved communities, reaching over 10,000 seniors each year.
